Charles Scott
Charles is a Partner at the Kelley | Uustal law firm. He leads the firm’s National Tobacco Department. He has successfully managed over 500 Tobacco Product Liability lawsuits and secured settlements exceeding $50 million.
Attorney Charles L. Scott, Jr. has litigated catastrophic injury and wrongful death lawsuits in most of the firm’s practice areas; however, he specializes in mass torts and tobacco litigation. Mr. Scott joined Kelley | Uustal after managing the Tobacco Litigation department for a prominent South Florida trial firm. There, he built his reputation representing decertified class members in Engle Progeny Lawsuits.
Not only has Mr. Scott recovered over $50 million dollars in settlements for injured smokers and their families, he has also won multiple appeals and was a part of a record-breaking trial team against Big Tobacco. Mr. Scott was even able to secure a multi-million dollar settlement for a victim of secondhand smoke.
Attorney Scott has been recognized for his creativity in the courtroom, his keen attention to detail and relentless work ethic. He is a level-headed litigator who is passionate about learning and teaching. He has the patience and perseverance to weather any storm.
BACKGROUND
Originally from Ohio, Mr. Scott completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Kentucky. While in undergrad, he also studied at the Universidad de Belgrano in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He received his Juris Doctorate from Nova Southeastern Shepard Broad Law Center and studied international law at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
Mr. Scott is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court Southern District of Florida and the U.S. District Court Middle District of Florida.
When he is not being a voice for the voiceless, Mr. Scott is a devoted family man. He focuses his spare time on mentorship and uplifting the community. Mr. Scott is a seasoned traveler and an avid reader.
