The Impossible Case Institute is led by trial lawyer John Uustal, whose career has been defined by taking on cases others would not and turning them into high-value outcomes. It was built to take on the hardest cases in the world. The ones that are too expensive, too risky, too complex, and often do not exist until we do the work to expose them. Every matter that comes through our door arrived here because someone else said it could not be done.
We handle a small number of cases each year, and each one justifies the institutional focus. This is work that exceeds what conventional firms can sustain. It requires depth, sustained effort, and a level of ownership most roles do not demand. If you are looking for a defined scope or an established path, this is not it.
When the Institute could not find the lawyers it needed, it built an academy to develop them. That same standard applies here. This work demands independent thinking, sustained intensity, and a willingness to go further than most. The people who succeed here stay with the problem, go home thinking about their cases, and study the craft on their own. They form their own point of view, can defend it, and are willing to be wrong.
We are not interested in cases we can handle. We are here for the ones no one else can.

Chief Litigation Counsel
Fort Lauderdale, FL · In-person · Full-time
This is the first senior legal hire at the Impossible Case Institute. This role is for an experienced plaintiff trial lawyer who already knows how to carry a case and doesn’t walk away from hard ones.
This role requires deep, relentless investigation at a level other firms generally do not undertake, to turn matters labeled “impossible” into massive wins. You’ll work directly with John Uustal on a small number of cases that demand independent thinking and sustained intensity. Most firms won’t expect this level of work. We do.
